The Archdiocese of New Orleans says Loyola University president The Rev. As Gambit previously reported, a group called the Concerned Classified City Employees (CCCE), which has accused Wildes of an anti-labor bias, contacted New Orleans Archbishop Gregory Aymond and cited Canon Law 285, No. 3, which says, "Clerics are forbidden to assume public offices which entail a participation in the exercise of civil power."…

Edgewood joins new school finance suit
More than four decades since filing its first landmark lawsuit arguing for equitable school funding, Edgewood Independent School District is joining forces again with a longtime ally, the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, to seek reform of the state's school finance system.
The board's decision makes Edgewood the first and only San Antonio school district to join MALDEF's suit, which is now one of four lawsuits that school districts have signed onto locally.
Board members also liked that MALDEF isn't going to charge the district for joining its lawsuit, which usually costs $1 per student with other school finance lawsuits.
Besides MALDEF's lawsuit, San Antonio districts have joined three other school finance lawsuits.
